NAT Type Reference Guide
Full Cone (Open) Any external host can send packets to your mapped port. Best for online gaming. Equivalent to PlayStation "Type 1" / Xbox "Open".
Restricted Cone (Moderate) Only hosts you have previously contacted can reply. Acceptable for most games. Equivalent to PlayStation "Type 2" / Xbox "Moderate".
Port-Restricted Cone Similar to Restricted but the source port must also match. Can cause issues in some P2P games and party chat.
Symmetric (Strict) Each destination gets a different mapped port. Hardest NAT to traverse. Equivalent to PlayStation "Type 3" / Xbox "Strict". Requires port forwarding or UPnP to improve.
